An interpretation of La Rêveuse by Marin Marais, performed on a Baroque lute by Antoine Pansera. La Rêveuse (the Dreamer) is a piece that was popularized thanks to the sublime movie Tous Les Matins Du Monde and the original soundtrack by Jordi Savall. The film tells the story of Baroque composer Marin Marais and his apprenticeship under the wing of viola da gamba master Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe. Marin Marais is played by the famous Gérard Depardieu who embodies an aging Marais who is nostalgic for his youth. In one of the key scenes of the film, Marais interprets his composition ''La Rêveuse'' to sick Madeleine, daughter of Sainte-Colombe and former lover of Marais. It's a sad scene, and the music reinforces its dark mood... Originally written for viola da gamba, La Rêveuse is one of Marais’s most expressive works.
