Max & Moritz is a double motorized steel roller coaster at the Dutch amusement park Efteling . The roller coaster was built on the site of the former Bobbaan and opened on June 20, 2020 in the Anderrijk theme area. The attraction is aimed at children between the ages of four and ten. The attraction was designed by Robert-Jaap Jansen, in collaboration with Karel Willemen for the station. The attraction consists of two roller coasters that depart in opposite directions from each other, the blue track Max and the green track Moritz . The top speed is 36 kilometers per hour and the maximum height is six meters. The theme of the roller coaster is based on the German children's story Max und Moritz from 1865. In this story, two naughty boys play a total of seven pranks, the last of which ends badly for them. Before the opening, a version of this story was included in the Efteling fairy tale book And They Live Happily Ever After , published in 2019. In terms of architecture and decoration, the station building is built in chalet style. The wooden parts stand out due to the bright use of colour. The interior of the building resembles a workshop. There are many cuckoo clocks in particular . In combination with the style in which the building is constructed, this is a reference to the Black Forest . In this region, many cuckoo clocks are still produced today and it is used as a tourist attraction. The area around the station building is also decorated according to the landscape that can be found in Alpine countries. Max & Moritz has been compared to the Maximus' Blitz Bahn attraction in Toverland amusement park because of its architecture and decoration. In October 2018, the park simultaneously announced the closure of the Bobbaan and its replacement, Max & Moritz. The 34-year-old Bobbaan regularly malfunctioned and Intamin (the manufacturer of the Bobbaan) no longer built this type of attraction. Efteling announced Max & Moritz as a double family roller coaster with a minimum length of one meter. Costs were estimated at around 15 million euros.
