Mexican Explorer Are: Rayito Donato & Javier Candelas Tacubaya Ciudad de México 4K Walking Tour Tacubaya (from the Nahuatl atlacuihuayan, "where water is collected") is a historic town in Mexico City. In the first half of the 20th century it was conurbated with the capital and has been part of it ever since. Today, the territory of the old Tacubaya includes the colony of the same name, Ampliación Daniel Garza, San Miguel Chapultepec II section and parts of the Observatorio and Escandón colonies, in the Miguel Hidalgo municipality of Mexico City.4 The area is located west of the city. Near the town of Tacubaya in today's La Palma colony, the oldest vestiges of human settlements in the area were found, some arrowheads from approximately 1000 BC. In pre-Hispanic times the Mexicas gave it the name of Atlacuihuayan, place where water is taken in Nahuatl. It was one of the places where the Tenochcas settled during their pilgrimage. When Mexico City–Tenochtitlan was founded, its inhabitants provided much of the land and stones that formed the foundation of the city in the center of the lake. During the conquest, it was taken by Cortés to cut and control the Chapultepec aqueduct.
