Explore the work of “the Spiderman painter” Alfred Cohen, as exhibition co-curator and King's Professor of English, Max Saunders takes you around an exhibition of work celebrating the artist on his centenary. Professor Saunders introduces you to the celebrated American artist and how he came to find success across Europe and in London. He discusses the artist’s influences and excitable approach to painting and invites you to take a closer look at one of his favourite paintings from the collection, the boldly coloured 'Sunset from Blackfriars Bridge' (1960). Alfred Cohen: An American Artist in Europe is a collaboration between the Alfred Cohen Art Foundation, the Ben Uri Research Unit (part of Ben Uri Gallery and Museum), the Sainsbury Centre, the Centre for American Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art, and the Centre for Life-Writing Research at King’s College London. The exhibition is co-curated by Max Saunders and Sarah MacDougall, and the exhibition and events programme is supported by the university’s Culture team. This exhibition was scheduled to open in London in the Arcade at Bush House in March 2020 but has now been postponed. You can visit the exhibition online: https://alfredcohen.benuricollection....
