Maul and Kenobi: first vs last encounter

Maul (formerly Darth Maul) and Obi-Wan Kenobi are famously arch-enemies, with complicated story arcs. During their first encounter, Maul fatally injures Qui-Gon Jinn, Kenobi's master, and during their first intense 1-on-1 duel (which followed immediately afterwards), Kenobi cuts off Maul in half and leaves him for dead. There are a few reasons Maul survives, but his sheer determination to get revenge on Kenobi is the main one. They fight again several times during the Clone Wars. Maul also kills Satine Kryze, Kenobi's love interest, as revenge and to rule Mandalore for himself. However, since Maul's former master (Palpatine/Darth Sidious himself) replaced him with Dooku after believing he was dead, he was betrayed by the Sith and so Maul and Kenobi have a common enemy. After the rise of the Empire they both went missing - Kenobi was in hiding on Tatooine watching over the young Luke Skywalker and Maul had visited the former Sith planet Malachor and became trapped. However, when he was found (by Ezra, Ahsoka and Kanan at the end of Rebels season 2), he escapes and seeks revenge on his old enemies. Including Kenobi, but it takes him ages to work out where he is. Eventually they meet again - Maul tracks down Kenobi on Tatooine. Kenobi refuses to fight him, but changes his mind when Luke's safety is threatened (Maul deduces that he's protecting someone). Their final fight is very brief - Kenobi knows that Maul will try and kill him using the same move he used to kill Qui-Gon 30 years earlier, so he's prepared. Kenobi shows Maul compassion in his final moments, and when Maul asks if he's protecting the 'Chosen One', Kenobi confirms he is. Knowing that there's hope for Sidious to be defeated yet, Maul dies peacefully with his final words "he will avenge us!". After his death, Kenobi cremates him respectfully despite their long and bitter history.
