This color educational film is about different types of airplanes and their role in aviation. This is circa the late 1950s/early 1960s, and definitely post-1958 as it features Boeing 707 jets (which went into commercial service in that year). Opening: Men in air traffic control radio a plane. Inside a plane. A jet lands on the runway. Air traffic control worker talks. TWA jet. People step off the TWA jet (:06-1:20). Luggage is carted off. A man dumps the mail out. Children run to the mailman at their home. Air France Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle jet. A man loads freight onto a conveyor belt. Cargo is loaded into a plane via a forklift. A cat in a cage is loaded in. An elephant is in a crate. Air France jet goes down a runway. Two people enter a small Cessna twin engine airplane. The propeller goes on. From inside he watches his engines turn on (1:21-3:15). The Cessna takes off into the sky. Air traffic controller uses binoculars. A Bell 47/H-13 Sioux helicopter is shown being used to spot the progress of a forest fire. Helicopter radios it in. Fire rages. A plane drops flame retardant onto it. Men parachute into the fire lines -- they are known as smoke jumpers. They land near the fire (3:16-4:45). A man floats at sea. A Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter, another Bell 47 but this one with floats, locates the victim. It then lands on the water. One of the rescue team jumps into the water to grab the man. A stretcher under the chopper is where the man is placed. The helicopter takes off. A weather plane takes off into the air. Controls inside the plane. Radar tracks the storms. Clouds move. Lightning in the sky. Weather plane, a Lockheed EC-121 Warning Star, flies towards the storm front (4:46-6:39). A Boeing Vertol Chinook helicopter picks up a power pole to transport it. It carries it into the sky. It then delivers it to the ground crew and leaves. Crop dusting plane in the sky, POV from inside it. Plane swoops down and sprays powder onto the crops (6:40-8:19). Airport. Military jet takes off. Helicopter. SwissAir jumbo jet in the sky. Air traffic controller speaks. A smaller rocket falls off a jet and goes at a high rate of speed up high (8:20-9:29). End credits (9:30-9:35). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
