When 'Generation Terrorists' was issued in the United States by Columbia in 1992, it was heavily reconfigured from the UK version; 'Born To End', 'So Dead', 'Spectators of Suicide', 'Damn Dog', and 'Methadone Pretty' were all removed, the b-side 'Democracy Coma' was added, and the running order was rejigged slightly. Overall, it made for a more focused album, though one could argue the sprawling excess is kind of the point of the record. Regardless, what is of greater interest to us is the fact that several tracks were remixed to include new drums, recorded by New York session drummer Zach Alford, most widely known for his work with David Bowie in the mid-to-late 90s. The producer of the UK version of the album, Steve Brown, decided to use a drum machine (programmed by Sean Moore using a Roland R-8) to give the album a precise, mechanical rhythm. However, Columbia felt it was too artificial sounding for the US market and bought in Alford to re-record the drums for four tracks. This is one of the four. These four tracks - alongside an edited version of 'Crucifix Kiss' available elsewhere on the channel, and the two versions of 'Repeat' - were compiled on a Japan-only mini album 'Stars and Stripes - Generation Terrorists US Mix' in 1992. Unlike the more famous US mix of 'The Holy Bible', these tracks have never been re-released in any form since, and have never been issued in the UK.
