Six Major Pacts Signed As Modi Strengthens India-Malaysia Comprehensive Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim oversaw the signing of six major agreements aimed at significantly deepening India-Malaysia relations during Modi’s two-day official visit to Kuala Lumpur. The visit marked a major step forward in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Both leaders held extensive discussions on expanding cooperation across key sectors including trade, investment, semiconductors, defence, security, maritime affairs, renewable energy, tourism, culture, and emerging digital technologies. The agreements covered diverse areas such as security cooperation, United Nations peacekeeping, disaster management, healthcare, anti-corruption efforts, vocational education, and social security for Indian workers in Malaysia. A major highlight was the collaboration on digital payments, with India’s NIPL and Malaysia’s PayNet working to integrate UPI for seamless cross-border transactions. Cultural ties also received a boost with the announcement of the Thiruvalluvar Centre and scholarships at Universiti Malaya. Additionally, India will open its first consulate in Malaysia, while Malaysia formally joined the International Big Cat Alliance.
