HIT REPORT 26/12/25 BOXING DAY SOUTH DURHAM and BRAES HUNT - THE TALBOT INN, BISHOPTON. We arrived at the meet at approximately 10:45. There were large numbers of supporters lining the roads and verges, with noticeably more supporters than riders, as is customary on Boxing Day. Rob Wilkinson delivered a speech loosely based on Trump’s “Keep America Great” speech, predictably tying it into hunting. He spoke about “keeping Britain great” and “supporting each other.” The hunt then moved off at approximately 11:10, heading towards Bishopton Beck. Almost immediately, Richard Smith was off his horse and hounds were onto the line of a fox, which sought refuge at the end of the beck among the riverbank and a large log pile. Monitors used the whip to keep the hounds away, which prompted Richard to warn the monitor about using it. Knowing they could not hunt this fox due to heavy monitor presence they moved on. As we attempted to follow, Mikey Fullerton, a terriermen for the Braes of Derwent, drove dangerously close to our car, hastily overtaking on a narrow road, eventually, he then deliberately blocked the road so that neither ourselves nor anyone else could get through, giving the hunt room to continue unhindered. Causing deliberate obstruction on a public road is illegal under Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 – wilful obstruction of the highway. Footage was taken and passed on to the police. With access to the road being blocked, our foot team jumped out and ran ahead, accessing a nearby footpath just west of Stillington Forest Park. At this point, one supporter—clearly present to cause disturbance along with his other genius friends, as is the standard on Boxing Day, left their vehicle, put on a balaclava, and ran towards one of our monitors. Before thinking better of it, turning around and heading back to his vehicle. Hounds were then heard speaking inside the Forest Park before moving out onto a field just south of Whitton Three Gates. With foot teams closely behind. Our driver pulled in at the side of a field to collect a foot monitor when the car was pelted with stones by masked individuals. This resulted in cosmetic damage to the bonnet. Police were called and footage has been submitted Shortly afterwards, the same group pulled up and squirted our monitors with an unknown liquid before threatening the monitor should he attempt to retaliate. This individual is known by us and again reported to police as thowing liquid at someone is considered assault, this time he was unmasked and captured on footage. A member of the public was also present behind the vehicle containing masked individuals and stated that they would also be calling the police as they were alarmed by their behavior At 13:10 we caught up with the hunt just south of Whitton House farm after a tip off from a member of the public in Carlton, they then crossed over Whitton beck and flushed through Greystone, we lost them for a brief moment before we found them on a road heading towards bishopton mill - where Matty Thompson made a hole in a fence to allow Dick and Robbie in, here they remained for around 30 minutes collecting stray hounds - Ian Bramley brought the remaining few and reunited them with the rest of the pack, the pack chastizing the missing hounds upon arrival. Once the pack were all together, the hounds were taken towards West Side Farm off Whitton Road. We followed on to Gateley Moor Reservoir where Robbie was positioned on point, not long after arriving the hounds spoke, bolted down a line and with the cry increasing, one of the monitors used horn calls and the use of the whip which proved ineffective, they were well on before the monitor could intervene, they chased on to a covert just south east of Langton Wood - intermittently speaking yet coming up short, they gave up and packed up shortly after and headed back towards the Talbot Inn at Bishopton. These large events in the hunting calendar always attract the dregs of society from there pits only out to cause trouble which actually reflects badly on the hunt.
