https://drturpeau.com/ Dr. Turpeau Explains his philosophy of The Harmonious Way and how to use it to make life decisions. He does this while trying to help a viewer who is struggling with being Black in Utah! Buy the Harmonious Way: https://www.amazon.com/Harmonious-Way... blacklovedoctor@gmail.com Question: I live in Utah and it is a task to locate our people; futile to convince those who are here, that they really are Black!! I'm from North Carolina so this is truly a culture shock for me. I moved out here for my job. The Baptist church was all White; the AME church were folks who didn't "show themselves friendly". I've considered hangin out in Vegas but someone told me that it wasn't wise to go there alone if you don't know your way around....Any assistance or suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated... I need help!! Thanks. Answer: You seem to be an afro-centric person in a very euro-centric environment. You are definitely not in a harmonious situation. I suggests she use the Harmonious Way as an approach to decide what to do. This is a five step process: 1) You need to be yourself. 2) You need to examine yourself. 3) Determine the type of environment that will allow you to be yourself. 4) Find that environment. 5) Maintain the relationship with that environment. My guess is that you are trying to be yourself and are discovering how afro-centric you really are. Which means that you are in the process of step two, which is discovering your Self. You really need to take time out and assess your priorities and what is most important to you. You moved to Utah because of your career but losing your idea of "black culture" is the price that you are paying. The population of Utah is approximately 2,800,000. Of which only about 39,000 of those people identify as black. Just over 39,000 black people in the whole state! Many of those black people will not fit your idea of what a black person is "supposed to be." You have several options: A. You can remain in your current situation and just bear it. B. You can force the few other black people in Utah to be what you think black people should be. C. You can sell out to your job for your salary and become less black. D. You can find another job in an environment that will provide you with a decent, though probably not as much, salary and will also allow you to express your Blackness with people of like mind. I suggest D. It's the Harmonious Way.
