35 years ago to the day of posting this, Bette Midler's iconic and career changing performance on 'The Rose' entered the Top 100 Australian chart. It would wind its way to #6 (#3 in America) and propelled The Divine Miss M into a new era of her amazing and diverse success. As a film star, a live performer, a recording artist and a comedienne - Bette Midler would excel at all of it in the 1980's and beyond. Her Golden Globe winning, Academy Award nominated performance in 'The Rose' changed everything. The song, is as haunting today as it was 35 years ago. But, i thought i'd create a clip for the flip side of the single 'Love me with a feeling' a live recording, as was most of the soundtrack other than the studio recorded title track.The single version garnered Bette the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. I enjoyed flipping my 45 single over and discovering this bluesy gem; raunchy, ballsy and pure Bette. Ms Midler would become one of my most beloved singers in the years since.
