It's cold INSIDE! | DIY gas valve change | Can I fix the furnace myself?!

Four days without heat, I think I have a bad gas valve in my furnace!! The weather has definitely turned cold, and it's solidly winter around here. And We had our first snowfall of the year, so it's REALLY cold! And wouldn't you know it, the Goodman furnace conked out! I was able to troubleshoot the operation down to what I suspected was a bad gas valve. But I am not an HVAC tech, so I had one stop by and run a diagnostic, and we verified that it is, in fact, a bad gas valve. Unfortunately, he did not have one on his truck, and it was going to cost an additional $600 for his to order it, and come back in a week and replace it. I don't have that kind of time. So I need to DIY this! Fortunately, I was an aircraft mechanic in the Navy, and valves are valves. I jumped on Amazon, ordered the replacement valve, and two days later, it was on my doorstep. Removed the old valve, installed the new one, and it fired right up! We are nice and warm again for these snowy January days!
