Spare Time was a hobbies-based television programme showcasing leisure activities, interests and pastimes — essentially celebrating what people did in their “spare time.” Region: BBC Midlands TV (the BBC’s regional output for the Midlands, broadcast alongside or between national programming). Production: Made at Pebble Mill studios in Birmingham, which was a major centre for regional BBC TV production in the 1970s and 1980s. Presenter – John Holmes John Holmes is best known as a BBC radio presenter, especially with BBC Radio Nottingham and BBC Radio 4. But early in his career he also worked in television; according to his autobiography and BBC sources, he presented several regional TV programmes at Pebble Mill, including: Look! Hear! — a youth-oriented music and culture show. Sparetime — his own hobbies and leisure-focused series.
