Album release : March 2017 A leading vihuela specialist, the Argentinian virtuoso Ariel Abramovich has already devoted two albums to the favourite instrument of the Iberian Renaissance, the rst on Arcana (Esteban Daça, El Parnasso, A316, 2002) and the second on Carpe Diem (Diego Pisador, Si me llaman, 2009). For this third instalment he is joined by one of the world’s most respected and innovative solo lutenists, Jacob Heringman, for a vihuela duo project which is the result of years of research and performing. While there is a signi cant number of publications for two lutes from the sixteenth century, only one of the seven collections for vihuela de mano includes duets, and it is precisely that collection that was the main source of inspiration for this project. The performers, both highly experienced with intabulations of sixteenth-century music, decided to recreate an ‘imaginary’ book of vihuela duets, following the taste and practice of the ancient masters, who through a notation system of ‘numbers’ used to arrange works by the composers they listened to and played. Cifras Imaginarias is the poetic name they have given to an imaginary music collection of vihuela duos of the kind that might have been published in the mid-sixteenth century. Sortie : mars 2017 Spécialiste de la vihuela, le virtuose argentin Ariel Abramovich a déjà consacré deux albums à l’instrument favori de la Renaissance ibérique, le premier pour Arcana (Esteban Daça, El Parnasso, A316, 2002) et le second pour Carpe Diem (Diego Pisador, Si me llaman, 2009). Pour ce troisième volet, il est rejoint par l’un des plus grands luthistes solistes au monde, Jacob Heringman. Ce projet de duos de vihuelas est le résultat d’années de recherches et d’expérience. Alors qu’il existe un nombre important de publications pour deux luths datant du XVIe siècle, seule l’une des sept collections pour vihuela de mano contient des duos. C’est précisément cette collection qui a été la source d’inspiration principale pour ce projet. Les interprètes, tous deux très expérimentés dans le domaine des intabulations du XVIe siècle, ont décidé de recréer un livre imaginaire de duos pour vihuelas, selon le goût et la pratique des maîtres anciens, qui, par un système de notation de « chiffres », avaient l’habitude d’arranger les œuvres des compositeurs qu’ils écoutaient et jouaient. Cifras Imaginarias est le nom poétique qu’ils ont donné à cette collection imaginaire, qui aurait pu être publiée au milieu du XVIe siècle.
