Trades of Our Fathers 2012 - Friday 6th July 2012 from 5:30pm - Bingemma Hills, Imgarr, Malta A small excerpt from the 'Għana Maltija' or ' l-Għana'; improvisation or 'spirtu pront' as it is known, at the 'Hidmet Missirijietna' festival, featuring four renown Maltese singers reflecting on the hardships of farmers in old times. Għana is the traditional Maltese folk singing, and in the improvised / 'Spirtu Pront' version, two or more singers make up the lyrics all along, usually replying to each other through witty quips and veiled sarcasm, with the musicians soloing in between to give them time to think up their next verses. Notice how the guitarists adjust their rhythm according to who's singing next, as each 'ghannej' has his own distinct tempo depending on his style. Apologies for the poor quality, a connection to the sound board was not available, some editing was required due to crowd noises etc. The cemetery, for reasons unknown to all, gets mentioned fairly constantly, despite the hosting event being a rural agricultural Festival and not a goth party or doom metal concert.
