Twenty years ago, OGC Nice had been promoted to the top flight but off the pitch, the club's very existence was in danger. 'OGC Nice 2002-03 : la Renaissance' pays tribute to all those who helped the club continue along the road that has led to what it is today with INEOS. .................................................................................... #ogcnice #film .................................................................................... A film by Paul Del Giudice and Yannick Faraut Produced by Kick Off Prod (2022) With Maurice Cohen, Roger Ricort, Kaba Diawara, Malek Cherrad, José Cobos, Everson, Noé Pamarot, Sammy Traoré, Cédric Varrault, Nabil Ouled-Gharbia, Thierry Quoex and Philippe Camps. It's a story of a journey from Hell to Heaven. In summer 2002, the success of promotion to the top flight on the pitch contrasted starkly with the club's perillous financial situation. Relegated to amateur status in the third tier by the DNCG, French football's financial watchdog, the end seemed near. It's at that moment that a unique moment of solidarity saved the day. A group of investors got together, led by Maurice Cohen who would become the club president. The players declined their bonuses, the fans mobilised en masse to ensure their passion for the club could live on. It paid off: Le Gym was officially reinstated in L1 on 19 July 2002. After that, the team spent 21 rounds of the season in the top three to make it a campaign to remember. For more than an hour, those who were there at the time — from the president to the players and fans, recount the adventure which, after coming so close to being the end, instead proved to be the start.
