Deutsche Welle” (1981) is a rare German underground and NDW documentary capturing the early 1980s independent music scene in Germany. Directed by Michael Bentele and Thomas Merker, and shot on 16mm and 35mm black and white film. Shot in 1981 as second filmproject at the University of Television and Film (HFF) Munich, the documentary captures the raw and unpolished moment just before what later became internationally known as “Neue Deutsche Welle”. Michael Bentele later became the director of the influential German music television show Formel 1. Featuring early performances and appearances by: Palais Schaumburg, Östro 430, Bärchen und die Milchbubis, United Balls, Der Deutsche Kaiser, Mannschreck, Front, Brausepöter and others. The film was broadcast only once in 1982 in a daytime programme ( before noon) on ORF/ARD and then disappeared from public access for decades. Digitally restored and re-edited by TALE OF YEARS. Dieser DIY-Film entstand 1981 als zweite Filmarbeit von Michael Bentele an der HFF München. Regie führten Michael Bentele und Thomas Merker, Kamera: Thomas Merker. Der Film dokumentiert die frühe westdeutsche Musik-Subkultur unmittelbar vor der sogenannten „Neuen Deutschen Welle“ – roh, ungefiltert und ohne spätere Pop-Zuschreibungen. Mit Auftritten von u.a. Palais Schaumburg, Östro 430, Bärchen und die Milchbubis, United Balls, Mannschreck und Der Deutsche Kaiser.
