The 4th Annual Youth Hoop Dance Championship Finals brought the best dancers in the Youth (6–12), Teen (13–18), and Collegiate (19–26) divisions to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Filmed at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, this event showcased precision, creativity, and cultural pride in every move. Ya’át’ééh! Aaron Tsosie here, the person behind the camera! Welcome to Day 2 of the 4th Annual Youth Hoop Dance Championship in Santa Fe, New Mexico! This incredible contest is divided into three age brackets: Youth (6–12), Teen (13–18), and Collegiate (19–26). Dancers are judged on precision, timing, showmanship, creativity, and speed — and to keep things fair, judges rotate out when their own children are competing, with alternates stepping in. This is my third year covering hoop dance contests in Phoenix and my second year at the Santa Fe event. A lot of these dancers I haven’t seen since last year’s championship or the big Phoenix contest in February, so it was amazing to reconnect — not just with the dancers, but also the singers, parents, friends, and families who make this community so special. One of the best surprises was seeing MC Dennis Bowen back on the mic! I’d heard he retired, but it turns out he’s just retired from Gathering of Nations and still MCs select events like this. Covering hoop dance is always an honor. I’m not just documenting a competition — I’m preserving moments in the lives of so many people. This has been a big year of growth for me and my channel, and I’m committed to capturing these events with the respect and care they deserve. Ahe’hee’ (thank you) to everyone who supports me — it means more than you know! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Firstly: Feel free to reuse my conent, just credit and tag me! 📸 Follow My Journey 🎥 Subscribe for more Indigenous event coverage: / @indigenouseventrecordings 📷 See my best photos: / indigenouseventrecordings 🎶 Short clips & Live event streams: https://www.tiktok.com/@indigenouseve... 📖 Updates & highlights: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... 📩 Business Inquiries For collaborations, or media inquiries, contact me at: IndigenousEventRecordings@gmail.com
