Reclamation: Artists' Books on the Environment Artist Reception Friday, July 2nd :: 5 - 6 pm PDT Join us as we celebrate the artists of "Reclamation: Artists Books on the Environment"! Showcasing nearly 80 works from artists around the world, this exhibition brings the myriad ways in which we interact with the earth and her resources into sharp focus. Co-curators Betty Bright (Independent Curator and Historian specializing in book art) and Jeff Thomas (Executive Director, San Francisco Center for the Book) will be on hand to offer remarks. SFCB Exhibitions Manager Jennie Hinchcliff will share virtual tours of the work at both SFCB and San Francisco Public Library's Jewett Gallery. About the exhibition: We live in a time of extremes. Nearly two decades into the 21st century thousands face uncertainties over food, shelter and safety. Environmental concerns demand increasing attention, from rising temperatures and dangerous weather events, to crises in water quality, to multiplying fires...the list goes on, echoed around the globe. Book artists create works that involve, educate, and inspire action. Book art takes many forms. "Reclamation: Artists Books on the Environment" was juried by Betty Bright, Mark Dimunation (Chief of the Rare Books and Special Collections Division at the Library of Congress), and Ruth Rogers (Curator of Special Collections at Wellesley College)
