Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Shervin Naderi demonstrates the use of a nasal drip pad also called a mustache dressing to soak up any blood tinged secretions from the nose in a patient with no nasal packing. The gauze is rolled up into a cigar shaped dressing pad and a good amount of Vaseline (or un-petroleum jelly) is applied to each clean new gauze and placed under the nose and held up with the Dale nasal dressing holder by Dalemed. Dr. Naderi requires his patients to use this method AT LEAST for the first 2-3 days but they can use it the entire week if desired. No q-tip use or manipulation of the nose the first few days. This nasal dressing is used to "mop up" drainage and prevent the patient from constantly having to dab their nose as well as for applying the ointment under the nose to lubricate the nostrils.
