You'll see all of the indoor test flights by the chicks and all the times they almost left the nest but decided that they weren't quite ready yet. From the first hop onto the entrance hole to actually leaving took around six hours. That's six hours that they kept everyone watching on the livestream waiting! The chicks went for the safety of cover and flew to a nearby tree. They could still be heard but not seen. This seems to have caught out the male bird who had been away catching a caterpillar and returned to find an empty nest. He had to check the nest a lot of times before he put two and two together. For the rest of the afternoon the parents were on and off the bird feeder taking food to the chicks who remained hidden from view in a tree. They'll keep feeding the chicks for the next few weeks. If you're actually reading this, chances are you've been along for a significant part of the journey. You'll know that there have been some big bumps along the way. As much as it may have fazed us it doesn't seemed to have affected any of the birds at all. As you would expect, it's apparent that they're much better equipped to deal with their adversity than we are. Once the video editing elf has had a little break from going through 16 hours of footage each day we'll strap him down to a chair and get him to put together a little montage video which starts with an empty box and ends with today's different kind of empty box. All that remains to be said is to thank you for watching and thank you for your supportive comments when things got a bit tricky at times. Hopefully you enjoyed your time with our Blue Tit family. Maybe we'll do it again.
