Hi this is Dr. Lena Kian again, and in this video I'm going to talk to you about what a naturopathic doctor is, and what it can do for you. Naturopathic Doctors are primary care providers and they blend thousands of years of traditional medicines with the current scientific advances, that are researched and modern. And we are actually experts in natural therapeutics. We're not against drugs or surgery, but unfortunately they've been overused. I think during emergency situations, they are absolutely amazing but during chronic situations they do not often treat the cause, and they just kind of keep the symptoms at bay. So when you come in to see a naturopathic doctor, we look at the whole person approach. We look at the mind, body, and spirit, and really do a thorough medical examination: looking at your diet, your lifestyle, your genetics, all the systems of your body: very very thorough and holistic. The average visit with a naturopathic doctor is anywhere between 1-2 hours, compared to about maybe 10-20 minutes with a medical doctor And I think that's why more people are interested in seeing naturopathic doctors, and that's what sets us apart. In terms of the education, we do go to a 4 year post-graduate naturopathic medical school, and must pass a vigorous board exam. We are licensed, we can order labs, we can prescribe if necessary, but a lot of times using natural therapies we can provide safe and effective healing, because your body heals itself and we want to tap into that healing power. The therapies that we use are natural like I said. It could be clinical nutrition, vitamin mineral therapy, homeopathy, counseling, lifestyle, things that really tap into your body's ability to heal itself. We can go over your labs, we do a lot of prevention so a good example would be if someone is diabetic we're not just gonna check an overnight fasting blood sugar.
