1933 Wolseley Hornet ‘Daytona Special’ For many years the Wolseley Hornet Special has been a familiar sight at VSCC meetings, these cars have plenty of character and a really superb exhaust note from their 6-cylinder overhead camshaft engine. A vast number of coachwork styles were available on the Hornet Special chassis, but arguably the best looking and most purposeful was the ‘Daytona Special’ by Whittingham & Mitchell built for the main Wolseley concessionaires, Eustace Watkins. Offered here is one such example; a ‘Sanction 78’ model, with all matching numbers, first registered in Hampshire on 21st July 1933 and retaining its original registration number. In a previous owners’ hands for 25 years, the car was the subject of 3-year restoration from the bare chassis, this being completed in 1995 with the intention being to concentrate on originality and correctness of detail. As a result, this car has always been highly regarded as an important reference point for anyone restoring a similar model. The car was off the road in storage between 2008 – 2017 and when recommissioned, work included a dynamo rebuild, rear brake reline, replacement of rear hub bearings and all new fluids and filters. Looking every inch the purposeful sports car of its era, the car is a joy to drive, with a great soundtrack and plenty of charisma. All weather equipment is complete and in good serviceable condition and a substantial amount of documentation and useful information accompanies the car.
