A basic introduction to straightening river cane. Sorry about the lighting. I'll do another video series like this soon (with better lighting). The bamboos native to the southeastern United States are Arundinaria species (grass family, Poaceae); A. gigantea (river or giant cane), A. tecta (switch cane), and A. appalachiana (hill cane). http://www.namethatplant.net/article_... Oven drying of bamboo and cane is possible. My home oven is a little over 23" wide and 28" diagonally on the inside. The shafts can be stacked inside the oven diagonally and heated up to 250 degrees for up to 60 hours. I've seen a process where green cane was dried at 200 degrees for 24 hours, cooled down, weighed, and then heated for another 24 hours, weighed, and this process repeated until the cane stops losing weight. I would recommend drilling a very small hole in each node to prevent explosions from expanding steam.
