This video isn’t about blaming the weather, the course, or the race. It’s about taking responsibility. My DNF at ARC 100 had nothing to do with fitness. My training was strong. Physically, I was ready. But preparation isn’t just training — it’s decisions, systems, kit, and logistics. And on this day, those failed me. Storm Ingrid didn’t cause my DNF — it exposed my preparation gaps. In this video, I break down: The food and timing mistakes before the race Poor decisions made on the day Kit choices that didn’t work in storm conditions Glove systems, layering failures, and dexterity issues Head torch mistakes and lack of equipment familiarity Footwear and cold exposure problems Assumptions I made instead of testing systems What I’ll change next time What others can learn to avoid ending months of training prematurely This isn’t a race recap. It’s a learning video — for me, and for anyone preparing for long, exposed, mountain or coastal ultras. Because fitness doesn’t finish races. Systems do. If this helps even one runner avoid making the same mistakes, it’s worth sharing.
