Bateria Saideira is the largest Bateria playing Samba Carioca in the east coast. At the 4th annual Saideira Social May 25th 2024, we pay homage to our mentors Bateria FURIOSA of Academicos do Salgueiro ‪@SalgueiroTV‬ The repique solo during the first minute of the “Furiosa” video is from Salgueiro’s 2017 parade in Brazil, and its composition was led by one of the world’s leading repique players, Gabriel Policarpo. This solo went viral on social media and has now been played by baterias around the world. This solo is especially important to Miamibloco as our mentors Gustavo and Guilherme Oliveira (Mestres of Salgueiro’s Bateria Furiosa) and Gabriel Policarpo, alongside our co-founder Brian Potts, are all members of the Brazilian percussion supergroup PRD Mais. They released their debut album in 2017, and many fragments from this particular repique solo can be found scattered throughout the album. In honor of these meaningful origins, “2017” is now a staple piece at all Miamibloco performances. __________________________________________________________________ Every Memorial Day Weekend Miamibloco's Bateria Saideira's 60+ percussionists take over the Miami Beach Bandshell to fuse Brazilian Traditions with Miami's global sound.
