Determined to distance himself from his family's dark legacy, Frederick insists on pronouncing his name “Fronkensteen” and dismisses his grandfather’s experiments. However, when he inherits the family castle in Transylvania and discovers Victor’s journals, curiosity gets the better of him, and he attempts to recreate the experiment that brought a corpse back to life—with predictably chaotic and hilarious results. The film explores themes of identity, legacy, and the fine line between genius and madness, all through the lens of absurdist humor and affectionate parody. Drawing heavily from the classic Universal monster movies of the 1930s, Young Frankenstein uses black-and-white cinematography, period-accurate sets, and dramatic lighting to authentically recreate the feel of early horror films.
