We Climbed Monkey Mountain in Hua Hin… Was It Worth It?

Khao Takiab (Monkey Mountain) was our first real adventure in Hua Hin — and it did not disappoint. Marilou and I caught a Grab from La Casita and asked to be dropped near Skoop Beach Café, hoping it would get us close to Monkey Mountain. Somehow we got lucky — the driver dropped us just meters from the steps to begin our climb. We checked out the beach quickly before heading up. After walking past restaurants (already planning dinner 😅), we climbed 100–150 steep steps toward the 270-metre hill. At first we didn’t see any monkeys… then suddenly — hundreds of macaques near Wat Khao Takiab. The viewpoints overlooking the Gulf of Thailand were absolutely breathtaking. We saw monkeys everywhere, two huge pigs, roosters, and plenty of dogs along the way. After exploring, we made our way back down to Monkey Mountain Restaurant for sunset dinner — arriving around 3:30PM was perfect timing. Instead of taking Grab back, we hopped on our first songthaew (baht bus) for just 15 THB ($0.50).
