From the journal "Pis'mennye Pamyatniki Vostoka" Founded in 2004 and published twice a year, this journal presents a wide range of articles and research findings in the field of Oriental Studies. The "Legal Maqama" of al-Abbas (Manuscript B 66, IOM RAS) This article by P.S. Teptyuk presents the Arabic text and Russian translation of the "Legal Maqama" ("al-Maqāma al-fiqhiyya") from a maqama collection by the late medieval author al-Abbas, who presumably lived in the 16th century. The text is based on two similar, previously unexplored manuscripts: B 66, housed at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts (IOM RAS) in St. Petersburg, and N.F. 66, housed at the Austrian National Library (Vienna). Context of the Maqama Genre: The evolution of the maqama genre, especially in the late Middle Ages, has been studied only in general terms. The genre's popularity is evidenced by a significant number of medieval collections, including that of the IOM RAS. A systematic and comparative study is necessary to draw conclusions about the specifics of this phase of development. Al-‘Abbas: The author's name appears briefly as "al-‘Abbas" on the title pages of manuscripts. No known 16th-17th century maqama author with this name could be found. It is speculated that he may have been Abdurrahman al-‘Abbasi (1463–1556), a Cairo-born faqih-hadith scholar who wrote a commentary on al-Hariri's maqama, indicating his appreciation for the genre. Selection of the "Legal Maqama": The choice to publish this specific maqama is based on a preliminary comparison with the "Legal Maqama" ("al-Maqāma al-farīḍiyya") by al-Hariri (11th century), which revealed interesting artistic characteristics. The plot of this maqama is clearly borrowed from al-Hariri, whom al-Abbas considered a supreme model. The Fraudulent Marriage Motif in Medieval Arabic Maqamas This second article by P.S. Teptyuk analyzes the "fraudulent marriage" motif in three medieval Arabic works, highlighting the evolution of the maqama genre. Study of the Maqama Genre: Arabic maqama collections, especially those from the late Middle Ages, have been little studied. The introduction of unpublished texts helps to understand the evolution of the genre more objectively. Works compared: The "Maqama of Wasit" (No. 29) by al-Hariri (11th century). The comedy "Tayf al-Khayal" (No. 2) by Muhammad ibn Daniyal al-Mawsili (13th century), similar in genre to a maqama. Ibn Daniyal is included because his works are considered a genre source for maqamas and were sometimes called maqamas in the medieval period. The "Egyptian Maqama" (No. 6) by al-Abbas (16th century).
