Rod Sims on ACCC sector enquiries and reforms leading to ex ante regulation of digital markets

Rod Sims (Chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) talks about ex ante regulation of digital markets. Digital platforms markets are at the intersection of competition policy, consumer protection and data privacy, and pose a challenge for competition law enforcement. Well-designed regulatory regimes can restore balance where competition laws alone are not effective. The ACCC is carrying out a series of sector inquiries to propose appropriate evidence-based regulatory reforms. Most recently this has led to the adoption of the News Media Bargaining Code.
