Discoid excision is a surgical technique used for the management of bowel nodules in endometriosis. This approach is typically considered when the nodule measures between 1 to 3 cm in size and involves approximately 20% or less of the bowel circumference. In this procedure, a circular stapler is introduced through the anal canal. Once inside, the device opens and captures the nodule. When the stapler is fired, the lesion is excised in the form of a disc, hence the name discoid excision. This technique is preferred in select cases where the lesion size and extent of involvement allow for a conservative approach. In larger or more extensive nodules, segmental resection and anastomosis may be required.
