On March 12, 2025, deputies in Flagler County attempted a routine traffic stop after a silver Mustang failed to stop at a sign while exiting a gas station. The vehicle also had illegal front window tint, measured at only 4% visibility—far below the legal limit. But what started as a simple traffic violation quickly spiraled. Inside the car: two brothers who immediately pushed back, questioning why the deputy approached the passenger side and arguing the stop was unlawful. With the windows rolled up and the vehicle clouded in dark tint, the deputy couldn’t see or hear them clearly. Over the next several minutes, they refused to comply, blew smoke toward deputies, made phone calls to their mom and a girlfriend, and rejected every command. Eventually, deputies had enough. With backup on scene, they deployed department-issued Shatter Balls in an effort to break the windows and make visual contact. Only then did the standoff come to an end. Both were arrested and charged with obstruction and possession of a prescription drug without a valid prescription.
