I own a 12 inch copy of Eargasm's "This is Lovers Rock" on the Venture Records label (B side: "Name That Tune", by P Pop & The Beagle) released in 1980, which is essentially a medley based on snippets of a number of Lovers Rock songs of the 1970s. When I was listening to a YouTube video of it a few weeks ago, I wondered if anyone had compiled a list of the songs that it references - I did a search, but couldn't find one, then I went to an AI based search engine (not the one starting with G) which told me essentially the same but suggested I look in the comments of the YouTube video. Lo and behold, I found a comment by Snoops / @Snooooooooooopy dated a year ago (which would put it in 2025 at the time of writing) which listed 18 songs and found YouTube videos for them all. It then occurred to me that a lot of other people with an interest would like to listen to the original reference songs, so I added them all into a playlist on my channel and then decided to put them all together in a compilation video, annotated with references to their source channels, release dates and concise summaries of artist biographies. I have liked listening to reggae music in general since the 1970s and the other artists in my vinyl collection include Dennis Brown, Prince Buster, Smiley Culture, Dillinger, Prince Far I, John Holt, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Capital Letters, Barrington Levy, Maxi Priest, Misty in Roots, Black Slate, Tyrone Taylor, and Black Uhuru.
