Getting Settled — S1E2 of The Beverly Hillbillies, directed by Richard Whorf and written by Paul Henning, first broadcast on CBS on October 3, 1962. The Clampetts have the mansion. Now they just have to figure out what to do with it. Granny confronts a kitchen full of appliances she has never seen and wants nothing to do with. Jethro spots a flamingo in the garden and brings Granny what he is certain is a giant egg — it is a croquet ball. The swimming pool becomes the "cement pond" for the first time — a phrase that would outlast the series by decades. And then Miss Jane Hathaway arrives, Drysdale's razor-sharp executive secretary, takes one look at the Clampetts, and fires them all as incompetent servants. When Drysdale arrives and explains her mistake, Jed — with characteristic grace — tells her she has been like one of the family. Miss Jane Hathaway never quite recovers from this episode, and the audience never wanted her to. ⭐ Episode Info Series: The Beverly Hillbillies Episode: Getting Settled Season 1, Episode 2 Air Date: October 3, 1962 Director: Richard Whorf Writer: Paul Henning Stars: Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, Max Baer Jr., Nancy Kulp, Raymond Bailey Network: CBS Runtime: 26 min Format: Black & White Version: Full Episode ✨ Why you'll enjoy this episode 🎬 The first appearance of the "cement pond" — one of the most quoted phrases in American sitcom history 🎬 Nancy Kulp's Miss Hathaway firing the Clampetts as servants is one of the great comedy misunderstandings of 1960s television 🎬 Jethro and the flamingo: physical comedy that has never aged a single day 🎬 Granny vs. the modern kitchen — a woman who has won every argument she has ever been in, completely defeated by a refrigerator 📌 Watch more on Switch International Classics Subscribe for full episodes of legendary classic series.
