Tolleson Fire Department and Avondale Fire Department are on the Westside of Phoenix, AZ, these departments often respond together on large calls. Tolleson is built of one Station housing Engine 161, Ladder 161, Ladder Tender 161, Battalion 161, Brush 161, and Reserve Engine. Avondale on the other hand is built of 5 Stations, These Stations are 171, 172, 173, 174, and 175. Station 171 Houses an Engine 171, Brush Engine 171, and Water Tender 171 Station 172 Houses Engine 172, Utility 171, and Command Van 171 which is shared with Avondale PD. Station 173 Houses: Engine 173, and Squad 173 which is Cross Staffed by Engine 173. Station 174 Houses: Engine 174 Station 175 Houses: Ladder 175, Ladder Tender 175, Low Acuity 175 and Battalion 171 What is a Ladder Tender? A Ladder Tender is what the Ladder crew take to all calls where the big ladder is not needed. For example, Medicals, car accidents, mountain rescues and other BLS calls. This saves the wear and tear on the big ladder.
