Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2019 Ford Explorer, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Demco Air Force One supplemental braking system. Now there's going to be five main components needed to flat tow your Explorer down the road safely. One of them is going to be the base plate here, which provides us with a solid and reliable connection point to hook up our tow bar to. The tow bar is going to go from the base plate to the back of the motor home. We're also going to have safety cables, which is a secondary connection just in case. In the event of a catastrophic disconnect, the safety cables are going to keep everything connected together. We're also going to have wiring. Here we have diode wiring, and this is going to transfer the lighting signals from the back of the motor home to the back of your Explorer, so everyone can see and know your intentions as you go down the road. Lastly, we're going to have a braking system. Now the braking system is going to stop the Explorer, using its own brakes instead of relying on the motor home to slow it down. Now there's a couple of different reasons you're going to need a supplemental braking system. One of them being is that, it's actually required in most states whenever you're flat-towing your vehicle down the road. The other one being, it's going to provide you with much safer and more predictable stops. It's going to shorten that overall distance, and that's because the Explorer is going to be breaking itself rather than relying on the motorhome to do all the work. And that's also going to put less wear and tear on all your motor home components, saving you time and energy in the long run.One thing I really like about this setup, since it uses the motorhomes air brakes, it's going to be extremely accurate telling our car how hard to break. Now this is a proportional system. So more or less, what that means is however hard you apply the brake inside of the motor home, the Explorer's braking system is going to match that pressure. That way whenever, say you're coming to a rolling stop and you're barely on the brakes, it's barely going to apply them in the Explorer. However, if he come to an emergency stop and really got to stand on them to come to a quick stop, same thing's going to happen back there. And overall, that's just going to make your experience a lot smoother. You're not going to feel like the car is getting hung up or you're dragging it down the road. Compared to some of the other styles of braking systems, a portable one for example. What I really like about the Air Force One is once you get everything in, you're done with it. Whenever you want to flat tow, you simply just make your basic connections and you're good to go. As compared to a portable style one, which requires you to set it up every single time. And then you got a large unit you need to keep track of or keep in storage, it just takes a little bit more time.So one thing I really like too is the fact that the kit uses an indicator light. So that indicator light mounts on the front of your car. That way when you're driving down the road and you have a video observation camera, for example, every time you apply the brake, you're going to be able to see that indicator light come on. That's going to let us know that our actuator is applying the brake inside of our Explorer. Here at the front of our Explorer, there's going to be a thing called the breakaway switch. Now the reason this is here, it's actually a device, say if you we're to come accidentally disconnected. This switch will get pulled, and it's going to actually apply the brake pedal inside of the Explorer, bringing it to a safe stop.As far as the installation goes, it is going to take you a little bit of time. But when you sit back and look at everything, there's not a ton of components and it isn't really that difficult. Just time consuming, like I mentioned. Speaking of which though, let's go ahead and hook everything up together now.To begin our installation, we're going to first start by mounting up some of our major components, here at the front of our vehicle. The first one we're going to focus on is our breakaway switch here. The breakaway switch is really simple. It's just held in place by one bolt here at the back of it
