All these signs of polyuria, polydipsia, increase in frequency, all points to a lower urinary tract obstruction. It might be due to prostatic obstruction or due to stricture or due to meatal stenosis or phymosis. First we have to rule out which is the primary cause. But we see that all these things of obstruction which leads to retention of urine. Partial retention of urine leads to infection. And we see sign of polyuria, polydipsia when the bladder is practically empty and sometimes more than 50 – 60 % of the urine remains in the bladder. This leads to less time for the bladder to fill causing increase in frequency. And because of obstruction, we see that the flow is decreased because the urine is not flowing properly. If this is not treated properly, this leads to damage of the kidneys due to back pressure changes. So treating these patients immediately is what is required, by medication or by surgical line of treatment.
