The great chocolate depression cake came about after World War II when eggs, milk & butter was expensive and hard to get. Much like today April 2020 when the pandemic hit. CWCF KITCHEN TOOLS LIST http://cheffredtv.com/shop Recipe 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour 1cup sugar ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder ½ tsp. Salt 1 tsp. Baking soda 1 tsp. Vanilla extract 1 tsp. White vinegar ⅓ cup vegetable oil 1 cup water Frosting 2 Tbsp. Butter, soften ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa 1 cup powdered sugar 1 Tbsp. Milk ¼ tsp. Vanilla extract Combine flour, sugar, cocoa powdered, salt, and baking soda. In separate bowl mix vanilla, vinegar, oil, and water. Mix wet and dry ingredients together to make the batter. Spray a 9x9 pan with cooking spray and pour batter into pan. Bake 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes. Let cool completely before icing. Frosting With an electric mixer, mix butter, cocoa, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Once combined turn mixer to medium speed and beat 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
