Thomson Nature Park is a 50-hectare green buffer park located in central Singapore, nestled between Old Upper Thomson Road and Upper Thomson Road. Opened in October 2019, the park is managed by the National Parks Board (NParks) and serves as both a conservation area and a cultural heritage site. It is particularly notable for its efforts to protect the critically endangered Raffles’ banded langur and for preserving the remnants of a former Hainanese village that once thrived in the area. 🌿 Trails & Highlights The park features five interlinked trails totaling 3.8 km, each offering a unique glimpse into the area’s rich biodiversity and history: • Ruins and Figs Trail (1.5 km): This trail guides visitors through nine historical sites of the old Hainan Village, showcasing building foundations, wells, and staircases now enveloped by fig trees. • Streams and Ferns Trail (1.4 km): A scenic route that meanders alongside freshwater streams, lush ferns, and dense shrubbery, providing a serene nature walk. • Rambutan Trail (400 m): A short loop encircling the site of a former rambutan plantation, reflecting the area’s agricultural past. • Langur Trail: Named after the elusive Raffles’ banded langur, this trail offers a chance to spot these rare primates in their natural habitat. • Macaque Trail: A path where visitors can observe long-tailed macaques; it’s advisable to keep food out of sight to avoid attracting them. These trails are generally considered easy, making them suitable for visitors of all ages. ⸻ 🐾 Wildlife & Flora Thomson Nature Park is a haven for various wildlife species, including the Sunda pangolin, Malayan porcupine, sambar deer, leopard cat, straw-headed bulbul, Malayan box turtle, and cinnamon frog. The park’s dense vegetation comprises several species of Ficus, angsana, and common pulai trees, contributing to its rich biodiversity. ⸻ 🏛️ Cultural Heritage The park is situated on the site of a former Hainanese village established in the 1800s and abandoned in 1975.
