The peroneal artery is a vital branch of the posterior tibial artery that plays a significant role in supplying the lateral compartment and parts of the posterior compartment of the leg. 🦶✨ The peroneal artery originates from the posterior tibial artery, approximately 2.5 cm below the popliteal fossa, near the lower border of the popliteus muscle. It travels deep within the leg, running along the posterior surface of the fibula. The artery is accompanied by the peroneal vein and branches of the tibial nerve. Key Features of the Course: ___________________________ It lies in the posterior compartment of the leg but supplies structures in the lateral compartment via perforating branches. The artery runs parallel to the fibula, enclosed by the deep flexor muscles. It terminates near the ankle, forming anastomoses with the anterior tibial and posterior tibial arteries, contributing to the collateral circulation of the ankle and foot. Branches and Distribution: __________________________ Muscular Branches: Supply muscles in the lateral and posterior compartments, such as the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis. Perforating Branches: Pierce the interosseous membrane to supply the lower anterior compartment. Nutrient Artery: Provides blood supply to the fibula. Communicating Branches: Contribute to arterial networks around the ankle. #medicalanimations #fmge #fmgevideos #rapidrevisionfmge #fmge2024 #mbbslectures #nationalexitexam #nationalexittest #neetpg #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #fmge #usmle #drgbhanuprakash #medicalstudents #medicalstudent #medicalcollege #neetpg2025 #usmleprep #usmlevideos #usmlestep1videos #medicalstudents #neetpgvideos #usmlestep2videos
