In this video, Pinpoint Laser Systems demonstrates how to precisely measure flatness and surface profile on press beds, platens, and other flat industrial surfaces using the Pinpoint Microgage laser alignment system. This flatness measurement setup uses three key components working together: Laser Transmitter and Transparent Receiver Assembly: A standard Pinpoint Microgage laser paired with a transparent receiver, mounted on a common plate and positioned on a four axis precision mount and tripod. The laser beam is projected outward and reflected back to the receiver via a mirror for highly sensitive positional measurement. Mirror Assembly on a Moving Sled: The mirror assembly folds the laser beam back to the receiver and is mounted on a sled with three tooling balls that rest directly on the surface being measured. As the sled travels along the surface and encounters slope or height changes, the mirror angle shifts, changing the reflected beam position back at the receiver for precise surface profiling. Microgage PRO Display and Capture Software: The display unit provides real-time vertical and horizontal readings from the receiver. A laptop running a spreadsheet application pulls live data from the display, records readings at each measurement location, and automatically generates a surface profile plot showing the exact flatness contour of the surface being checked.
