For students at Shih Chien University, learning design theory is part of creating the designs of the future. But the chance to put their theory into practice does not usually come until after graduation. However, for one group of students travelling to rural Cambodia to build schools, they had to work in one of the most difficult climates, using their knowledge to build architecture that can withstand the harshest monsoons. In this episode of Zoom In Zoom Out, we talk to the driving force behind the project, Professor Chen Guo-chou. Chapters: 01:00 How the Cambodia project started? 02:08 Where the funding comes from? 03:19 Challenges of building in remote areas 06:09 International collaboration with Japan & Malaysia students 07:29 What drives Professor Chen after 14+ years? 08:13 What students really gain from the project? 10:05 Strengths & weaknesses of Taiwan’s architecture education 11:08 How students construct complex structures? 12:21 Training for Cambodia-style construction 13:37 What’s next for the project? #ShihChienUniversity #ChenGuoChou #Cambodia #Buildingaschool #Taiwan #TaiwanPlus #TaiwanPlusNews #TaiwanNews #ZoominZoomOut - TaiwanPlus|https://www.taiwanplus.com TaiwanPlus presents the country’s unique voice on not only local issues but also world events.
