The Mile High Capital of the Centennial State | Denver, CO

After a long string of wilderness areas and tiny settlements, we have entered back into our first major city in almost a month of adventures. Colorado is known for both its historical western heritage and its current social atmosphere of open mindedness and forward thought. It should be no surprise then that its principal city knows exactly how to represent an exciting blend of these two themes. At the foot of the Front Range's first steep inclines, the once humble outpost of Denver City was sprung up as an optimal settlement at which several frontier industries of the past took hold, capitalizing on the massive westbound migrations of the 19th century and its central geography to became one of the most important western cities along the routes of the railroad. A vibrant urban area, inarguably full of cosmopolitan community pride and countless quirky attractions, as well as a base for various governmental operations, I could absolutely see a reality in which Denver would be given the moniker "Beating Heart of the Rockies" if it already didn't have a number of other nicknames. And no matter where you go around the city, you're never too far from some incredible natural areas ever-present from which this city sprung up.
