Nepali student found dead at KIIT hostel; 2nd case in 3 months sparks concerns, UGC orders probe

Hailing from Nepal, Prisha Sah, a first-year B.Tech Computer Science student at KIIT University, was found dead in her hostel room. The incident took place on the evening of May 1 to which the University expressed grief over her demise on May 02. Following the post-mortem of the Nepali student, her body was handed over to family members at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The grieving family chose not to repatriate the body to Nepal; instead, they proceeded to Puri to perform the last rites at Swargadwar. In response to the tragedy, the UGC has formed a 4-member fact-finding committee led by IGNOU VC to probe the recent alleged suicides. The committee will investigate the incidents, review student safety compliance, and recommend preventive measures.
