The Vaqueros are coming!

Every year the Mission Espiritu Santo holds the Blessing of the Vaqueros as they begin their 205 mile ride from Goliad Texas to Houston for the Houston Rodeo. We were so lucky to be staying at the park this week. The reason they chose the mission as their starting Point is that the mission, in its heyday, was the top cattle producer in the area with up to 40,000 head of cattle at a time. The vaqueros (cowboys) would drive them to market on horseback. Now days, the mission is a historic tourist site, but the spirit of the missions is strong here in Goliad. Watching this celebration of history and the vaqueros spirit brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. I hope you enjoy this celebration of history as much as we did! Vaya con Dios vaqueros!
