In our last Flora Friday video for the year instructor Steve Baillie teaches us about the iconic fever tree scienticfic name now Vachellia xanthophloea previously known as an Acacia tree. It is very special that the last video of the year is taking place in the incredible fever tree forest of the breathtaking Makukele in the Northern Kruger National Park, This tree goes by many other names such as; Koorsboom (Afrikaans), mooka-kwena (Northern Sotho), umHlosinga (Zulu), nkelenga (Tsonga), munzhelenga (Venda). This tree is entirely harmless but as the name suggests it was thought to be in the early days of the settlers as they believed that fever trees were the cause of malaria. Watch our latest video to find out more about this interesting tree.
