Stereographic animation is a technique that uses stereoscopy to create the illusion of three-dimensional depth in animated films and videos. It works by presenting two slightly different images to each eye, which simulates the way our eyes naturally perceive depth in the real world. The left and right eye images are then displayed simultaneously with dedicated viewing devices to separate the images and send them to the correct eye. This type of stereographic animation displays the two images side-by-side, one on the left and one on the right. This technology is commonly viewed on a special monitor or projector, each eye sees the corresponding image, creating the illusion of depth. In this 3D animation, an open hernia repair procedure is animated for educational purposes. Open hernia procedures can be performed under local, spinal, or general anesthesia. The type of anesthesia used depends on the patient’s health and, in some cases, the patient may elect the preferred anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon will make one incision of approximately one and one half to two inches long near the site of the hernia. The protruding tissues are then gently pushed back to their natural position. Amerra developed this stereographic animation to be used with 3D monitors and eyewear to create a sense of immersion within the scene.
