If you've been told your child has a condition called eosinophilic esophagitis (e-o-sin-o-FILL-ik uh-sof-uh-JIE-tis or EoE), you may have a lot of concerns and not know what EoE is. EoE is when a kind of white blood cell called eosinophils builds up in the throat, where they don’t belong. That can lead to swelling, pain, and trouble swallowing in the tube that connects our mouths to our stomachs. With EoE, it can feel like something is stuck in your child's throat. Your child's stomach may hurt. It may hurt to eat. It might feel like food is coming back up or that they’re about to throw up. But there’s good news: If you and your child learn what triggers your child’s EoE symptoms and what can be done to prevent them, your child can still do the things he or she enjoys while taking care of his or her health. Visit AGA’s EoE Patient Resource Center (https://patient.gastro.org/eosinophil...) to learn more about EoE, how it’s diagnosed, and how families can work with their doctors to manage this chronic disease.
