Lesson 1: Introduction to Pashto (1st Day with Beginners) Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: Understand basic Pashto greetings. Introduce themselves in Pashto. Recognize and pronounce Pashto letters (briefly). 1. Warm-Up (5-10 minutes) Instructor's Introduction: Greet students and introduce yourself in Pashto. Example: "Za [your name] yam. Za sta ustaz yam." (I am [your name]. I am your teacher.) Ask students about their native language and prior exposure to Pashto. --- 2. Greetings & Basic Phrases (15-20 minutes) Teach students basic greetings and common phrases: Activity: Pair students and let them practice greetings with each other. Example conversation: A: "Salaam! Sta num sa dey?" (Hello! What is your name?) B: "Za Ahmad yam. Taso sanga yai?" (I am Ahmad. How are you?) A: "Za kha yam, manana!" (I am fine, thank you!) --- 3. Pashto Alphabet Introduction (15-20 minutes) Introduce 5-7 letters (not all at once to avoid overwhelming students). Show how to pronounce each letter. Example: ا (Alif), ب (Ba), پ (Pa), ت (Ta), ټ (Tte) Write words with these letters: بابا (Baba - Grandfather) پټ (Pat - Hidden) توره (Tora - Sword) Activity: Let students try to pronounce and write letters. --- 4. Simple Self-Introduction (10-15 minutes) Teach students to introduce themselves: "Za Ahmad yam. Za da Pakistan yam. Za da Pashto zaba زدکوم." (I am Ahmad. I am from Pakistan. I am learning Pashto.) Encourage them to say their own names and nationality. --- 5. Closing & Homework (5 minutes) Review the words and phrases learned. Assign a simple task: Practice greetings at home and write 5 Pashto words. Encourage them to watch a short Pashto video to hear native pronunciation. --- Teaching Tips: ✔ Use gestures and visuals to reinforce learning. ✔ Encourage student participation with role-playing. ✔ Keep the lesson interactive and fun for beginners.
