I spent a couple of nights in the Sierra de Guara as I travelled from the Pyrenees to the Picos de Europa. El Parque Natural de la Sierra y los Cañones de Guara, a range of limestone mountains, is in the foothills of the Spanish Pyrenees and is best known for its canyons (barrancos). I only had a day here so I went hiking along a five-mile trail in the nearest canyon to Rodellar, the village where I was staying. Its name is the Garganta de Andrebod. The trail is easy but you have to cross the Río Mascún in a couple of places. It was only ankle deep when I was there but you have to watch out for heavy rain as flash floods can occur. Towards the end of the hike the trail climbs up the onto a hill with spectacular views towards the Pyrenees. Unfortunately a huge thunderstorm came rumbling towards me just as I was on the highest point of the hike so I had to walk fast (translation: run) back down to Rodellar and abandon filming with lightning striking all around me. I got soaked but it was hot so I didn't care. The videos on my channel are for entertainment only (other than where specified). Always prepare well and be willing to abandon a trip if it becomes dangerous due to weather or unexpected trail conditions. If you are new to hiking and the great outdoors it's always a good idea to go with a guide or a more experienced companion. And remember - give the wildlife some space, leave no trace, go quietly and enjoy it out there! A word on drones - I know how annoying it is to hear a drone whizzing about when you are trying to enjoy the peace and solitude of wild places. I'm also aware of the potential to disturb wildlife with them. I always avoid flying the drone when there are other hikers around. It's one of the reasons I tend to hike at less popular times of day and in mid-week and I avoid using the drone if I do see others nearby. I never fly a drone towards wildlife or where birds are likely to be nesting. #solohiking #silenthiking #hiking
